Photosynthesizer is a site-responsive live composition developed for Opus 40 as an experiment in collective listening and ecological attention. Presented outdoors the work treats the stone architectural forms and former quarry landscape of the site as integral to sonic resonance. Live synthesizer performance, used without spatial effects like reverb or delay, was allowed to interact directly with the acoustics of shale and open air, letting the site function as spatial treatment. Removed from institutional interiors, the work invited meditative, embodied engagement and foregrounded environmental co-regulation, vulnerability, and easeful cocreation with both human and nonhuman beings in the park.
