Moving Target — Work in Progress, 2024-present
Composited video and sound; medical documentation, photos, music composed on a Moog Labyrinth synthesizer. Dimensions variable.
This video brings together fragments of lived experience during cancer treatment, including medical documentation, transcriptions, scans, and recordings that reflect a desire to make sense—and nonsense—of illness. As a trans person undergoing breast cancer treatment, Moving Target is an exploration of cancer as both individual and collective trauma, where identity and disidentification are inseparable, and survival becomes a practice of witnessing. The work moves between lived embodiment and ongoing diagnostic “imaging,” where the body is returned as data rather than experience. The accompanying audio was recorded at home on a modular synthesizer during the artist’s first round of chemotherapy.
